About this booklet
This Candidate assessment booklet has been designed for students undertaking face-to-face mode of study to provide information before they undertake these assessments. It also contains assessment tools to assess the skills and knowledge required from you to be deemed competent in this unit.
Please read all the information given to you when you receive this assessment booklet. If you do not understand any part of this booklet, please inform your trainer/assessor.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and monitor the implementation of operational plans to support efficient and effective workplace practices and organisational productivity and profitability.
The unit applies to individuals who manage the work of others and operate within the parameters of a broader strategic and/or business plans.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Purpose of assessment: The primary objective of assessment is to support and encourage your learning.
Assessment results give the assessor an indication of how well you learnt in class and or areas you
may need extra support
Performance evidence:The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:
▪ manage an operational plan for at least one business or work area.In the course of the above, the candidate must:

Competency requirements:To be judged competent in this unit, you must satisfactorily complete all assessment tasks to be Competent (C) in the unit. Students with unsatisfactory completion of any of the assignment tasks will be deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC).
Assessors will ensure that the evidence collected meets the requirements of the Rules of Evidence (authentic, current, sufficient and valid) prior to entering results into the competency record sheet.
Students unsuccessful at achieving “Satisfactory” for any assessment at the first attempt will be given two opportunities for reassessment. If the student is still deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC) after two reassessments in a unit of competency, student will be required to repeat the unit as per the scheduled delivery of the course. Instruction for learner
Prior to the commencement of the assessment:The assessor will explain the Assessment Conditions and advise you prior to conducting observation/assessment:
o what will occur throughout the assessment processo when the assessment will occur (Date and Time)o the level of competency expected
● Prior to the commencement of the assessment, you will be given the copy of the Candidate Assessment Pack.
During the assessment:● During role play/ practical demonstration, your trainer may be required to act as a student, where
required, but trainer/assessor will not interfere with the assessment.● If the assessment activities might impact your safety or that of others, trainer/assessor will stop the
assessment immediately.● Your trainer/assessor will confirm assessment submission details for each assessment task.● You are required to mention your name and student Id in either header or footer of the assessment
document to be submitted.

● ALL tasks must be completed in legible English. It is preferred that the tasks submitted for assessments are typed.
● You must submit all assessments on or before the due date specified by the assessor as per the training plan.
● Extensions for individual assessment tasks may be negotiated in specific circumstances with your assessor/trainer. However, you need to provide genuine evidence documents when seeking an extension to due date (e.g. extensions due to illness will require a medical certificate). To arrange an extension, you must speak to your assessor prior to the due date. Extensions must be confirmed by the trainer in writing.
● You are permitted to use dictionaries and to seek support (as required) unless it puts in jeopardy the integrity of the assessment, your assessor will let you know if this is the case.
● Unless the assessment task specifically allows pair work or group activities such as brainstorming, you must submit your own original work and must not copy the work of other students. Plagiarism is unacceptable.
● You must complete the student’s declaration.
After Submission of assessment:
● Once you have completed and submitted assessment to trainer/assessor, your trainer/assessor will mark the submitted assessment and will arrange a time with you for the feedback discussion and to advise if there are any further steps for them to take.
● You will be provided with:

● This unit is not graded, and the student must complete and submit all requirements for the assessment task for this unit of competency to be deemed competent.
Assessment outcomes: –
For unit of competency: There are two outcomes for assessments: C = Competent and NYC = Not Yet Competent (requires more training and experience).
You will be awarded C = Competent on completion of the unit when the assessor is satisfied that you have completed all assessments and have provided the appropriate evidence required to meet all criteria in line with the Rules of Evidence. If you fail to meet this requirement, you will receive the result NYC = Not Yet Competent and will be eligible to be re-assessed in accordance with the Australian School of Commerce Re-Assessment Policy and Australian School of Commerce Course Progress Policy.
For assessment task: There are two assessment outcomes for tasks. S = Satisfactory and NS = Not Satisfactory. On the individual assessment cover sheet for assessment tasks you will be marked Satisfactory, if you have completed the task successfully, submitted all evidence and satisfied the assessment criteria and

Not Satisfactory, if you have not completed the task, the evidence is not sufficient or does not meet the requirements of the assessment criteria.
Recording an assessment result:Once the assessments have been completed, the assessor will record the assessment results on the student assessment record sheets and all results will be approved by the Training Manager.
Assessors will check that you have completed the signed student declaration prior to filling out the assessment sheet.
Retaining assessment records:Australian School of Commerce will securely retain all completed student assessment items for each student for a period of six months from the date on which the judgement of competence for the student was made. Australian School of Commerce will also retain sufficient data to be able to reissue AQF certification documentation for a period of 30 years.
The assessor will ensure that the student records are securely retained and stored in accordance with the Australian School of Commerce record control policy accessible by the Student Administration Officer.
Re-assessment:If you are unsuccessful at achieving competency at the first attempt, you will be given two further opportunities for re-assessment at a mutually agreed time and date. For further details, refer to the Australian School of Commerce Re-Assessment Policy and Australian School of Commerce Course Progress Policy. As this is a competency-based program, the assessment continues throughout the program until you either achieve Competency in the assessment tasks or a further training need is identified and addressed.
Student access to records:You have the right to access current and accurate records of your participation and results at any time. You can request a copy of your records (results or attendance progress) by contacting the student administration or assessor.
Support:You may seek clarification about the assessment information and the instructions and tasks at any time from the assessor.
Reasonable adjustments and special learning needs:Australian School of Commerce works to ensure that students with recognized disadvantages can access and participate in education and training on the same basis as other students. Disadvantages may be based, for example, upon age, cultural background, physical disability, limited or non-current industry experience, language, numeracy or digital literacy issues.Where pre-training interviews and LLN assessments reveal that a student may require special support or where, after enrolment, it is made apparent that the student requires special support, reasonable adjustments will be made to the learning environment, training delivery, learning resources and/or assessment tasks to accommodate the particular needs of the student. Complaints and appeals:If you are dissatisfied with an assessment outcome, you may appeal the assessment decision. In the first instance, you are encouraged to appeal informally by contacting the assessor and discussing the matter with them. If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of such discussion, you may appeal further to training manager. If you are still dissatisfied, you may appeal formally and in writing to have the result reviewed. Assessor intervention:Assessors will check if you are ready for the assessment and defer the assessment if you are not. Feedback will be given to you at the completion of the assessment. During role play, the assessor may act as a client or employer, where required, but the assessor will not interfere with the assessment. If the assessment activities might impact on your safety or that of others, the assessor will stop the assessment immediately.
Plagiarism, cheating and assessment dishonesty:Australian School of Commerce considers plagiarism and cheating as a serious misdemeanor. Evidence of plagiarism and cheating is treated on a case by case basis and the consequences for students engaging in such practices may include failure of the assessment or unit or exclusion from the course. The “North Wharf” board of Directors along with the CEO of the company have made a decision to implement an e-commerce strategy which will be used to maintain and grow market share and revenue. This strategy will also ensure that customer satisfaction is as per the company’s strategic directions.
The company has engaged you as an “External Consultant” to manage the operational planning activities that will need to be put in place before the e-commerce strategy can be implemented and the online business can commence.
E-Commerce strategy
✧ All products will be offered via an online store. ✧ All stock will be stored at existing stores in the different states at no additional cost✧ Delivery costs will be covered by the customers.
The website of the company needs to be re-developed so that it is functional with the online store.
The company also needs to buy the delivery vehicles. Based on the research, the company has decided that one delivery truck will be required for 50 sales a day. The company is expecting to make 500 sales a day. If the trucks are bought, then the company needs to recruit 10 drivers. Another alternative would be to sub-contract the deliveries to independent drivers who would use their own trucks.
Additional staff are required to be recruited for the expansion and to implement this new business strategy.

After consulting with stakeholders at North Wharf, the following risks have been identified:

You have gained approval from the Board of Directors and Operations Managers to implement the e-Commerce strategy. They want this strategy to be implemented in accordance with the strategic directions of the company.
As per the company’s instructions, all resources that are to be acquired and the operations that are to be undertaken must be in accordance with legislative requirements, intellectual property (IP) rights and responsibilities, and organisational policies and procedures.
As discussed in the previous assessment task, North Wharf will sell all the products via an online store.
They have given you the responsibility of implementing this strategy. The project has already been initiated and is required to be completed in one year.

Part A
At this stage of the project, you must recruit new employees and acquire the physical resources and services.
To do so, you must plan the physical and human resourcing according to the organisational requirements.
Resourcing strategies:
● Prepare the resource acquisition strategies for acquiring resources for the new e-commerce website.
You must plan the process in accordance with the organisation’s policies, practices and procedures (refer to the Business Plan).

Task-1: Performance management
Scenario:
The project is in the implementation phase.
The following are some of the performance outcomes that management has asked you to consider, monitor and review with regards to the operational performance of the project.
Management has further highlighted the reasons for downfall in each key performance indicator. These reports have been presented to management by the Sales and Marketing Manager.
As per the report there are three teams. Each team has a team leader that reports to the Customer Service Manager. The under-performance is spread across all three teams.
● Based on the performance measurements standards set up by the company, it was expected that the percentage of mistakes customer service employees were providing in response to the enquiries and preparation of an order was going to be 1%. The outcomes from a recent performance report has shown the error rate (mistakes made) to be 10%.
Reasons:
● Staff not familiar with the product line, even after training● Staff do not understand the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems and
ordering processes● Staff do not understand the product line and are unable to locate the information● Poor communication lines● No job aids or support from management● No ongoing performance management as per company policy● Low staff morale: complaints of back pain and distractions in environment.
● It was expected that a customer complaint/enquiry would be resolved in 12 minutes. At the moment the average time taken is 18 minutes.
Reasons:
● Many customers abort interaction due to length of time for order completion● Some extra time is taken because of lack of skills and knowledge● Time taken because of poor website maintenance and occasional downtime.
● It was expected that the products would be delivered within 3 days from ordering. Currently the average delivery time is two and half days.
Reasons:
● Driver team leader is exceptional motivator● Driver morale is high● Driver attendance of routine training and team briefings is at 100%.

Based on the analysis of the data provided by management, you have identified that the Team Leaders and Customer Service Manager are not providing directions to the team.
Part-A
Based on the information given in the scenario, you are required to conduct a coaching session for the Team Leaders and the Customer Service Manager. Before conducting the session, you are required to prepare a list of areas of under-performance using the “Performance Management Plan” template provided and to complete the Coaching Plan Template.
The role of Customer Service Manager will be played by your trainer/assessor and the role of team leaders (2) will be allocated to other students.
After identifying the areas of under-performance, you are then required to:

The actual outcomes were different from the expected outcomes. You arranged a meeting with the CFO to discuss the possible reasons as the CFO had the responsibility to track progress against the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
In discussion with the CFO, he outlined the following causes:

o Order mistakes o More time spent than average to handle customer queries.
Apart from these KPI’s, he has also identified some risks that needs to be treated with immediate action.
● Training program has not been able to provide adequate information to the employees. Thus, the employees are still lacking in customer service skills
● Website performance has not been up to the mark. Customer service have been disrupted due to website downtimes
● Sales for the first 6 months have not been able to achieve the target. The reason behind this is the changing customer needs and increasing market competition.

Task-3 : Implement variations in operational plan
From the outcomes of the half yearly report provided by the CFO, you have identified that the objectives for the next part of the implementation of the project are as follow:

Based on these objectives, the operational plan needs to be changed.
Part A
In this part of the assessment task, you are required to arrange a meeting with the CFO and the General Manager and negotiate recommendations for the variations to the Operational Plan. When negotiating, you are required to:
● Present the previous operational plan ● Outline the changes that have taken place ● Present how these changes will impact the implementation of the e-commerce strategy● Outline the changes that need to be made to the Operational Plan.
At the end of the meeting, you are then required to gain the approval of the variations to the Operational Plan from the General Manager and the CFO.

Concepts of coaching underperforming employees
What do we coach?
Generally, performance issues can be fixed through constructive communication between managers and their employees. Broadly, coaching applies to any ability at any point, so that most employees will benefit from a form of mentoring in some way. It is an uncomplicated way to set, explore and examine goals in a collective manner.
When do we coach?
There is a difference between formal training and coaching, so the real question is where do you intervene or do you allow for the employees to solve through the problems for themselves? So it is essential to:
● Monitor the employee’s work and be observant of peculiar triggers. A classic example is noticing an attitude change in the employee or a decline in the employee’s KPIs.

9.Avoid conflict of interest

6.Processing applications
