Context:
This assignment is an opportunity to create a draft of what will eventually become your third and final paper–your research paper.
Your research paper will incorporate some more complex features, but for now, this draft is a chance establish focus, organization, conduct research, see how the “response” part of your summary-response might fit in here, test out your working thesis and work out any writing challenges you may encounter before the final version is due.
Task:
In a thoughtful essay containing an introduction, at least 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion, please respond to the following question:
What is one commonly held value or belief in American society that you feel needs to be challenged, reimagined, is lacking in substance, or perhaps doesn’t truly reflect how Americans live their lives? Why?
Requirements:
* 1000 word minimum!
* Introduction containing at least background information and a clear, direct working thesis statement
* Three body paragraphs, each containing a clear, direct topic sentence that stems from the thesis statement, at least one appropriately formatted quote from an outside source, and appropriate, thoughtful explanation/analysis. Each body paragraph should be at least 6 thorough, complete sentences long.
* Conclusion wrapping up your thoughts and humanizing your essay, showing your audience why the essay is relevant.
* MLA format
* The incorporation of at least 3 sources
* One can be your original article you used for the summary-response essay
* One can be the additional article you researched for the summary-response essay
* One must be a new, independently researched, Tier 2 source.
